Why grafts should not be divided?

What is a graft?

There is much speculation around this term. The main goal of such speculation is to take the patient's attention away from the fact that many surgeons divide follicular units, creating multiple “grafts”, which increase the profitability of such a procedure for the clinic by 2-3 times. Below we will explain why it IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN to divide the grafts and what this can lead to.

A graft in hair transplantion is a natural follicular unit (follicles - hair roots). That is, by its nature, a HOLISTIC association of follicles. A graft can be thought of as a hair factory. The "power" of the factory may vary: the graft may contain 1-4 hair follicles or maybe more hair in the active phase (see photo). Some doctors "play" with terms and exchange the concept of grafts with the concept of follicles, as a result, the number of transplanted follicles always exceeds 2-3 times the number of grafts.

Why grafts cannot be divided

The concept of grafts in a hair transplant emphasizes the integrity of this natural association, which should not be disrupted during the procedure. Damage to grafts leads to poor survivability of the transplanted hair. Therefore, a graft in a hair transplant is a follicular association, so called follicular unit - a morpho-functional unit of the scalp, which contains: 1, 2, 3 or 4 follicles (or more) in the active stage (anagen) and 1-2 follicles in the resting stage (telogen), follicles have a local microcirculation and innervation. Thus, the graft (follicular unit) is a microorganism of the scalp.

A damaged graft, like a damaged organism, has little chance of surviving.

Transplantation of high quality, holistic grafts guarantees hair growth. Only an experienced professional can extract grafts without damaging them and retaining hair density in the donor area. Dr. Tsilosani has been conducting hair transplant procedures for more than 22 years, he holds a world record for the maximum density of transplanted grafts - 100 grafts per cm2.
